MICHIGAN BALLOT & MILLENIALS - WHAT YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT THREE MICHIGAN BALLOT PROPOSALS BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE

YOU HAVE PLEDGED TO VOTE IN MID-TERMS, DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST

As a registered voter planning to vote on November 6, you should check on your status.

Vladimir Putin as depicted in the documentary "Active Measures" ordered a cyber attack on our election process. It is not just meddling, it is a theft of your personal information and history of your voting tendencies. Further, in Michigan and other States Russia actually accessed voter registration and by merely changing "one-digit" in your data effectively obstructed your vote!

The Michigan Voter Information page is the web page where you can verify you are registered to vote. Also, you can access a State-wide search for your County and locality to review the ballot as it will be when you enter your specific precinct throughout Michigan.

If you have not yet registered to vote, October 9, 2018 is the deadline and you can look up the steps necessary in your County.

If you are expecting an Absentee Ballot, you can check that your name remains on the mailing list. In the 2016 Election, I never received my ballot until checking with the City Clerk to learn my name was dropped from the rolls due to tampering.

In Michigan I believe absentee ballots will be mailed on October 9, 2018.

From the State site you can also view the actual ballot for your local precinct and community with every election for local office such as School Boards.

In order to access the Voter Information and Common Cause websites, you will need to copy and paste into your browser.

There are three Michigan Ballot Proposals that you should read and ponder so you are not surprised at the polls on November 6th. If you can decide how you wish to vote, it will save time at your precinct.

I want Michigan Millennial to review the proposals as they may specifically speak to your future interest. I have copied the language of the three Proposals and placed here.

The first proposal appearing on the ballot is for the legalization of marijuana and its' possession by individuals age 21 or older. I believe this is a proposal that mid- age and especially the millennial population would motivate them to vote in the mid-terms. Many may not be aware this proposition is on the ballot. They need to be informed by those that are more involved in our political process.

The second proposal is critical to our democracy. Voting Yes will change the unjust practice of redrawing the map in Michigan to form Congressional Districts to reflect the demographics of the party in power. The practice known as gerrymandering has been around for a large part of our history. Republicans have held the majority in the State Legislature for a decade or more which allows them to employ gerrymandering to their advantage. The lines drawn allow the Republican candidates to choose their voters rather than a democratic process. It is wrong! With Republican control and a distinct advantage this puts Democrats in a most unfavorable position if they are ever to level the playing field.

The third proposal is also crucial to prevent voter suppression as it has been so common in Southern States where they employ any and all tactics to disenfranchise black voters. Now, the Republicans holding high office are adopting similar racist practice to suppress the voter rights of millennial, working poor, blacks, seniors and so on. This has garnered a great deal of attention in Georgia. The current Secretary of State Kemp is running for Governor while holding the job that controls voter registration. You may have heard he is holding back approval of 53,000 registration applications because 70% or more as African American. It is an outrage.

The third state-wide proposal on the Michigan ballot will help prevent such practises by allowing same-day voter registration. This is a critical issue for millennial who plan to vote only to find they are turned away at the polls.

To the Millennial population: October 9th is the final date you can register to vote. The Michigan Voter Information site can direct you how to register in your city or community.

I urge you to VOTE! This is your future and I write and researched this information on your behalf. If our Democratic Institutions and the three branches of our government are to be preserved and the Congress is to represent your interests you must vote.
