IF ALL ELECTIONS ARE LOCAL,
HERE'S HOW TO MAXIMIZE THE POWER OF YOUR VOTE

CONNOR BERDY

ReminderTuesday, August 6, 2019

A primary election will take place in Warren, Michigan. Many voters do not pay much attention to local elections let alone the primary. I urge you to exercise your ballot as if we the people wish to create change, remove politics of hate and division, we begin at the local level. We must replace any politicians who lean toward this President.

Event: This primary will elect candidates to compete in the fall for  Mayor, City Clerk and two (2) members at-large for City Council. This a simple ballot on Tuesday.

How to Maximize the Impact Value of Your Vote:

When I reached the eligibility age for my first vote it was exciting. I was about to vote for my favorite candidates in both national and local elections, Before I left to vote my father imparted his wisdom and philosophy of voting, especially for local election offices.

My Father cautioned that a citizen who chooses blindly will often make mistake if they vote for an unknown. You do not want to vote for any candidate that may turn out as unfit!

Leave the field blank as this will not spoil your ballot.

Vote Selectively:

Vote for no more than 2 candidates from a field of 6, you will greater empower your vote by choosing a single candidate above all others. This allows the best chance and odds for your favorite, say Connor Berdy to advance from the Primary to the General Election.

The advantage by voting for only ONE candidate you do not risk wasting your ballot. If you happen to like and vote for his closest rival you will only cancel out your favorite. By voting more than one you are canceling one out in most cases.

By following this strategy you are exercising your best judgment, best choice and best advance your candidate. This is the person you trust, have knowledge of their background, philosophy, ideas and strength of their character.

Recommendation:

The Council Member at Large ballot includes a fresh face to the political scene. He is the one candidate who held election officials to abide by the letter of the law.

The candidate who has exercised intellect and fought tirelessly to earn a spot on the ballot and deserves your vote is

Additional Information:

Local primary and the general elections invariably have  multiple candidates from which you are to darken the circle of No More than 2 as they appear on the sub-card of the ballot.

These  are races for state-wide office, judges, college trustees, city treasurer and city council members. Some will be identified by Political Party and others run as nonpartisan candidates. This means they have no Party affiliation next to there name. The designation of Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Green Party do not appear.

The primary vote for Mayor of Warren includes the incumbent. often seen as being under a cloud of controversy. The election for a new City Clerk that does not include the incumbent as the most recent was removed from office for criminal behavior and false credentials.

Some years ago the City of  Warren came to adopt a new Charter. The city was divided geographically into 5 (five) Districts, each electing one council representative. The reduction in size was seen as as way to save money and encourage a broader citizen participation. A broader range of candidates they did achieve.

However, the same faces came to serve as councilman year after year. Some citizens began to scratch their heads posing the question. "Why are the same faces appearing as Council members for so long?"

Incumbent Councilmen found a loophole in the City Charter to  bypass  term limits by cleverly utilizing a skewed interpretation of the language. Some came to employ a dubious strategy to extend the length of their terms and  thus their collective power.

First, a city council candidate, based upon geographic location of their residence within one of the five districts. Once elected as an incumbent they won successive terms by name recognition.  As term limits neared, they would then "switch" by running for one of the at-large seats thus extending their tenure, their power and their pension no doubt.

PLEASE NOTE this is the opinion of this author and has not (as of yet) been an approved message by the candidate.
