No Longer A Question If, When Will Putin Unleash His Blitzkrieg

No Longer A Question If,

When Will Putin Unleash His Blitzkrieg

RUSSIAN INVASION OF UKRAINE NOW SEEMS UNAVOIDABLE

Russian troop deployment along the border of Ukraine --The Economist

The West has largely ignored a broad threat to Ukraine for more than seven years when Russian loyalists within joined non-uniformed foreign actors in the bold move to annex the Crimea. America and the West fail to respond in a meaningful way then.

A grave situation two months in the making has seen Russian troops grow to 100 to 125K with a full array of military vehicles and equipment at the door of Ukraine. In recent days it went from tension to a crisis. The current talks pursuing a diplomatic “solution” for a small incursion may soon be an all-out invasion. The Geneva talks appear as too little, too late.

Putin’s Russian military buildup on the border of the Ukraine since December. Our recent reconnaissance and multi-agency intelligence, reports there is an estimated 100,000 troops who remain stoic and perhaps frozen while awaiting orders.

News sources informed Americans that 25,000 withdrew during the holidays. More likely they redeployed to Belarus as part of multi-prong invasion of Ukraine. For Ukraine to defend their beloved land is doubtful on one front but this… seems unsurmountable.

This cannot be characterized as threat, but a promise from a man who does not keep them. The threats are credible; no longer constituted as one possible small incursion of Ukraine’s Sovereignty, any more than the overload of tourists on January 6th last year.

If one had time to study History, World Diplomacy, Philosophy and clear interpretation of political current events, one may begin to understand the explosive nature, ramifications and consider reasonable strategy to offset Putinesque ambition. As individuals we cannot collectively educate ourselves. We place our faith the President, Executive Branch, multi–Intelligence Agencies and members of both parties are heeding their duty.

The truth falls somewhat short considering we do not hear a rally cry from Senate Republicans nor the Radical Right in the House focused on anti-democratic legislation and the Republican Right to defeat the Right to Vote. If somehow that makes sense to you, then Putin has won with his misinformation, conspiracy theories and anti-American propaganda.

Recently, British intelligence has determined a more sinister threat to Ukraine as  they reveal  the Russian endgame is to install a president to serve as puppet to the master in the Kremlin. This goes farther than Putin’s ongoing demand for assurance from the West.

Ukraine will never be considered or allowed to join NATO.

If we all studied world politics, philosophic interpretation of current events and history, one can begin learn the motive, strategy and ramification of Putin’s ambition. The truth is that Putin is succeeding with a strategy reaching far beyond Ukraine.

What we learned by fact and folly is that Vladimir Putin is the global operative; the master in waging war and undermining democracy. He is keenly aware of the weak opposition other than diplomatic rhetoric. As the 2014 Sochi Olympics nearing the closing ceremonies when the world unceremoniously witnessed the guile of Putin and his tools of propaganda, misinformation, outright lies, deployment of questionable paramilitary and a rather histrionic and historic claim to re-annex the Crimea as Russia’s own.

The photo depicting Ukraine’s outrage as Crimea was falling, the brave people of Kiev took to the streets in defiance to an illegitimately elected government staged by the Kremlin. This was prior to democratic election of President Zalensky. The protests quickly became violent in that spring of 2014. It was at that moment an independent Ukraine was under siege, not in these recent reports of the border encroachment. The cycle of our news media is second to the ignorance of politicians in Washington.

President Obama’s 2014 lackluster response to the Russian egregious transgression in Ukraine. Obama recruited the support of our NATO allies we witnessed the initiation of diplomatic and economic sanctions began with (now can be judged as little or weak) the first in a litany of economic sanctions. Diplomats presented to the world as a refined response short of war. We thought economic sanctions would hit Putin in his Russian purse.

In the ensuing years, the West imposed and regularly revisited imposition of diplomatic and economic sanctions. Obama took the approach like that of a parent scolding the incorrigible child’s bad behavior. This was a failed attempt to deter Putin and his Active Measures[1] to skirt international law, taking what is clearly not his. What child or foreign ambassador protests being sent home from school?

Recalling the Trump pre-teen boast, no president in history has been tougher than me on “russ-her.”  Remember Helsinki “I have no reason to doubt what Putin told me. Russia did not interfere in our elections.” At that moment Americans believed this would end his presidency as his words and body language portrayed him as an operative.

This raises questions, why have our leaders treated Putin’s transgressions with sanctions that have repeatedly failed over years? It is as if the West seems to sanction bad behavior. Are there underlying sinister factors at play?

What Once Was, Returns as New and Putin Never Strays from His Playbook

Putin is pursuing a lifelong personal crusade. From the moment he left his Dresden post when East met West in Berlin he chose a cold, calculating path to power. He is a master of counter-intelligence under a cloak of secrecy and fueled by unrelenting tenacity. His thirst for upheaval is inherent in DNA.  Putin hates America, the Constitution and the Rule by Law over plutocracy and autocracy. Putin’s greatest conquest is the insidious doubt sewn for our institutions, undermining facts, fabric of freedoms and political practices.

Vladimir Putin has accomplished the impossible, exceeding all of the rulers in Russian history Putin can be considered the most powerful leader in today’s world as he is hell-bent to undermine democracy everywhere.

I would term the growing fears, tension, tumultuous moments of today as the “Putin Push.”  This is Putin, spearheading a bold action plan after softening the resolve of his world with misinformation, a language of fear and the most effective propaganda since World War II. All of which has been in the making almost simultaneously with the fall of the Berlin Wall. From his beginnings with the KGB, his ascent in local politics and his positioning where he struck gold by gaining first the ear of Boris Yeltsin and then his confidence.

Putin is attributed with the declaration “The greatest catastrophe of the twentieth century is the collapse of the Soviet Union.”

What Putin has accomplished in the past ten years and recent days in Ukraine includes… election interference, government computer hacking of communications, command (military), control, power grids and anything else deemed to be of a tool of disorder just as he has targeted the USA.

Remember Robert Mueller’s  warning that there is an existential threat to democracy. And there is the ongoing thesis and brilliance of Timothy Snider’s On Tyranny[1]

Today, Putin is pursuing his carefully crafted, ambitious plan in incremental steps to cause doubt, confusion and chaos within a democratic Ukraine. Putin is presenting a revisionist  history to restore a satellite state to an orbit of the power and pride of the old Soviet Union. He has weighed Russian public opinion as a risk to his presidency.

The genius of Putin becomes evident as what is new as he undertakes education of the military. The troops on the border are too young to have experienced life under the Soviet Union. (Similar to our military born after 911) Two generations have been indoctrinated to believe that Ukraine is the bad guy, the aggressor. Time will tell if he is successful.

There is no room for error with this autocrat and oligarch.  Putin is hell-bent to undermine any Democracy with false narratives even the absurdity of the Big Steal. He is confidently  intent to unleash an autocratic plan to destroy democracy. It may take years for democracy to disappear adroitly. Democracy will become a soft whisper recited as nothing more than a fond memory as told by the old who are seldom heard. The Great Experiment will be myth, a failed opposition to autocracy.
