FALL LEAVES AND A SHROUD OF GRAY
FALL LEAVES AND A SHROUD OF GRAY
Spring showers, cherry blossoms,
A warm breeze and days at ease
Summer paints a watercolor each
day
A sunny canvas then a warm
afternoon spray
Brilliant blue skies give way
To a shroud in fifty shades of gray
Each dawn with a moist dew
The sun rises to lighten our mood, our day
Trees teeming green fades to brown
Transforms a landscape of color in every
hue
Lavenders, yellows turning gold
Orange and reds bright and bold
I come to regret sunny days now gone
A loss forfeited to stay home
When I should take a chance
To steal moments, life in the sun
Our hallowed ground, a day for the dead
We grieve the coming days we dread
The relentless wind and chilling rain
Vibrant life leaves, only to clog a storm drain
