Sotomayor: As You Know Has Been Sworn In As Associate Supreme Cout Justice
Earlier I entered an extensive political account and opinion on the final days of the Senate Judiciary Committee's inquest or inquiry as to the background of Judge Sotomayor. I have since attempted to move that Post to the archives and in a few moments of this post I will learn of its' fate.
ONE FINAL COMMENT ON THE SENATE HEARINGS AND THE VOTE IN THE SENATE
The Judiciary found only one Republican who voted with all of the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee thus recommending her to the full Senate for a final vote as "accepted" from nominee to that of Supreme Court Justice.
SENATE FINAL VOTE IN FAVOR OF APPROVAL
I believe the final vote of 61 - 39 with the the "nays" all Republicans. What this hold for the future is not known. One thing is clear. Judge Sonia Sotomayor has all of the qualifications as an Associate Justice for the Supreme Court! The Republican members of the Judiciary Committee should apologize for bringing up the same question about THE famous quote regarding "Latina Women." They repeated this question 17 times during the hearings. They also made up questions in "hypothetical terms" as an attempt for her to fall into a trap where her more "humanistic" and "empathetic" side might open a "crack" just large enough for a pack of elephants to barge through, blare their trumpets in the air and in any way, shape or form cast serious doubt on Judge Sotomayor's ability to preform her duties without bias.
How absurd and how stupid does this loose coalition of Republicans think the American people can be? These same Senators, Republican, Democratic and those who flip parties should be subjected to the same sort of scrutiny when even announcing their bid for public office. No doubt 75% of the same hypocrites would not be sitting in those Committee seats and enjoy all the benefits of their position.
The most ridiculous thing came at the end of the hearing when they announced that the "Committee still had some questions about some of her opinions to answers she just spent 3 days being grilled. The Committee requested she "write her answers" like over the weekend as if it were homework and another way to snub her qualifications!
