REMIND THE PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP OF HIS OATH TO BE PRESIDENT FOR ALL THE PEOPLE

Wednesday, November 16, 2016

ACT BLUE, an online advocacy group sent an email in collaboration with Social Security Works to sign a petition to STOP Speaker Paul Ryan and President-Elect Donald Trump from any discussion, plan or legislation to privatize Social Security and Medicare. In addition to checking off a box in support, there is a small field area to add remarks.

So, I entered my arguments as to why any such measure is wrong. I sent my remarks along to Social Security Works, but I do not intend to stop there. In addition to this post, I plan on forwarding my comments in a letter or email to every Senator, Representative and to the President-Elect Donald Trump.

I urge you to do the same. The ACT BLUE petition no doubt has posted on Face Book and has it's own page. Tell them NOW, before Mr. Speaker gets carried away. Let's Save Speaker Ryan from a Yuge Blunder.

These are the comments I included in my reply to the email petition.

You must come to the realization to privatize Social Security is Wrong. In placing working people Social Security withholding taxes in the hands of financial or banking institutions on Wall Street you are jeopardizing the one retirement program available to all Americans.

Secondly, it creates a new costly layer in management fees to these firms where CEO compensation is in the millions, not to speak of other employees, potential for fraud and transaction fees when trading shares of American worker's future in retirement. To privatize is to place workers at RISK as they near retirement age ( no doubt rising to age 70) due to a possibility another Great Recession occur and Benefits are cut accordingly. Finally, it is immoral. The NEW DEAL has made this solemn promise to the American working poor and middle class, these benefits are assured.

Recent data collected on Medicare is showing that the program now more than pays for itself. Once again, privatizing opens the door to Profit Only Insurance Industry who focus on DENIAL of claims as the first order.

The benefit portion of SSA must be EXPANDED to include higher benefits, COLA and available for new beneficiaries. The cap on Social Security withholding taxes MUST be raised over the current amount of $115-K and be applied to as high as the top earn. The top 1.5% have been living on the taxpayers' back for over 70 years with so many other regressive taxes that you know hurt the poor. This is a sacrifice the wealthy should welcome as patriots even though the total tax they pay will exceed their own benefits. It is fitting. It is fair.

A single payee Medicare program should be adopted. It will end the confusion over Insurance plans, grant a Right to Health care as every other industrial nation. It will allow Medicare to bargain and obtain the best prices on Rx drugs! In every way, these programs have worked in the past, they work now and can work in the future with greater coverage, affordability and lower government costs.
If privatization is so lucrative, less government, more efficient, then I ask you Mr. Speaker, why has the GOP not pursued the same for FOOD STAMPS? The answer is clear.  There is absolutely NO PROFIT to private individuals and corporations seeking to grab control.

As a personal aside, Mr. Speaker as a practicing Catholic I find your position on Social Security and Medicare to be unethical, immoral and not within the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. If you should doubt this assertion, I advise you to seek counsel from Pope Francis or a surrogate such as Cardinal Michael Dolan of New York.  Americans ask that you reflect on this, how this would affect members of your own family, passed and living and pray to one GOD for guidance.

UPDATE:

I believe there is an urgency in expressing your views on this issue and more to come. As Senator Bernie Sanders in his speech remarked (to paraphrase), "We must hold the new President to his promises to all Americans." Here is a transcript of Senator Bernie Sanders as appears in TRUTHOUT,*an online publication reliable in reporting just as the name implies.

SENBERNIE SANDERS: Mr. Trump said, unlike many Republicans, the vast majority of the Republicans, he said we -- he will not cut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Now, I believe we should expand Social Security. I believe in a Medicare-for-all program. But that is what he said. And pay attention to see what he now does. The question that will be resolved, pretty quickly, is whether or not everything that he was saying to the working families of this country was hypocrisy, was dishonest, or whether he was sincere. And we will find that out soon enough. But, number one, no cuts, says Mr. Trump, to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

The Trump Administration is putting together the team for the President's inner circle. For example, Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner is the focus in the media at this moment as to his role in the White House. He is the owner of the New York Observer. He is a Harvard graduate and married to Ivanka Trump.

All the discussion at this time focuses on the potential role he will play in the Trump White House.
We know Steve Bannon has suspect views to say the least. It is a safe bet that Jared Kushner has different and more reasonable views on a myriad of issues.

Now is the time prior to actually taking office appears the most opportunistic time for the American public to voice their concerns on any appointments and issues.

In the Title Bar of this blog you will find a field, Contact Washington. If you click-on here you will access a list of Links and some specific names, addresses of Senators and Representatives. I have included both the President and Vice-President as well as Senate Minority Leader, the Speaker and most importantly President-Elect Trump and Jared Kushner. For now, I am suggesting correspondence to be sent to The Trump Tower.

Your opinion does matter. When individuals take the time to write and send letters, believe me they have an impact. Please consider writing re Social Security and Medicare or issues to follow.
